Yellow Coco Creative Nest is the brain child of the warm, creative and super-talented husband and wife duo, Susan and Susiawan. A homely and welcoming space, their goal is to nurture children's creativity through the arts. The classes are bilingual and seamlessly weave together Eastern and Western practices, cultures, songs and stories - making them appealing to expat and local children alike. We have all learnt so much about the culture, beauty, traditions and rituals of Bali through our time at Yellow Coco that we may have missed out on otherwise. One of our biggest worries about travelling with our two young girls was that a nomadic lifestyle would deprive them of access to friends to socialise and play with. Stumbling across Yellow Coco in our early days in Ubud was a huge lifeline for us. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 9.30am the girls brim with excitement to join the energetic, creative and fun circle time. We relish the opportunity to meet and chat with other parents. With such a welcoming atmosphere, we quickly felt part of the community and have made some great friends. Circle Time is aimed at 1-4 year olds but there are a whole range of classes to suit children of all ages. Susan inspires little imaginations through songs, stories, drama and dance. Susiawan keeps little hands busy with arts and crafts - all from recycled, reused and natural materials. Our girls love to sing, dance, jump around, play games, draw, colour, listen to stories, watch puppet plays, bang drums and meet friends! Yellow Coco is by far Jessica's favourite place in Ubud and as well as the social interaction she has thrived creatively through her time here. A creature of habit, it's also given her the structure and routine she craves in an otherwise uncertain travelling world. Amelia has quite literally grown up at the "nest", arriving as a baby, unable to even crawl, she took her first wobbly steps under Yellow Coco's roof. We'll be very sad to say goodbye all our friends at Yellow Coco when we leave Bali next week. But we take a little part of you with us through the many happy memories, songs, rituals and stories we have gathered there. Yellow Coco is a very special place; depending on donations they need everyone's support to build their amazing new nest. Contributions small or large are welcome at www.startsomegood.com/yellowcoco or help by spreading the word. Whether you are in Ubud for a week, a month or a year make sure you don't miss Yellow Coco.
