For the ultimate Seychelles experience the best way to explore the idyllic island of Mahe is by renting a car.

With your own wheels to drive in the Seychelles you can really enjoy the variety Mahe has to offer. Meander at your own pace through the delights of this beautiful and impressive island and discover beach hopping, waterfalls, jungle, mountain walks and stunning viewpoints along the way.

We spent three adventurous days driving in the Seychelles courtesy of car hire from Maki-Car-Rental

It was a delight to drive and and we loved discovering our own little far-flung corners of Mahe. The driving is certainly adventurous at times with steep, narrow mountainous hairpin bends and scenic, twisting roads that hug the coastline. But the wild, natural beauty; thick, tropical forests, lush green tea plantations and brilliant blue ocean views will blow you away.

There are countless beaches, bays and coves to discover on Mahe and the best of the best are along this stretch of coastline. From the idyllic horseshoe bay of Port Launay in the north to the famous powder white sand and pounding waves of Anse Intendance in the south you’ll be spoilt for choice. Our family favourites include Anse Soleil and Petit Anse - picturesque bays perfect for swimming, snorkelling and relaxing.

This scenic drive weaves it’s way steeply through incredible lush jungle, thick tropical forests and tea plantations. Not for the faint hearted the narrow, winding road has hairpin bends galore and seriously steep drops. But, the outstanding natural beauty, lush scenery and stunning viewpoints along the way have to be seen to believed. A proper feast for the eyes.

This twisting coastal road meanders along this stunning stretch of the island; treating you to glimpses of the glittering turquoise Indian Ocean and secluded coves along the way. At the rocky, rugged and wild North Point you’ll truly feel like you’ve hit the end of the earth. Stick around for sunset if you can - they don’t get much better than the aptly named Sunset Beach.
